West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee calls on Air India workers to agitate for implementation of LWP scheme.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called for a movement against the Central Government's decision to send a section of Air India workers on unpaid leave. 

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called on worker's organizations of various political parties to form a united movement against the Central Government's move to send Air India workers on unpaid leave for six months to five years

In the wake of the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic, Air India has already issued LWP scheme for their employees. The LWP scheme has been introduced for grant of leave without pay and allowances for permanent employees for a period of six months or two years, which is extendable upto 5 years," the statement said.

The LWP scheme enables employees to take a break from their office responsibility for a defined period of time with the approval of the management, while retaining their employment with the Company. Employees who are unable to attend their office duties in person on account of personal reasons. 

“The LWP scheme also provides the opportunity to employees to take up alternative employment with the approval of the Management during the period of the said Leave. The LWP scheme is a win-win situation for both the management as well as employees as it provides flexibility to employees and simultaneously reduces the wage bill for the company,” said by airline 

In protest of the central government's decision, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called on worker's organizations of various political parties to form a united movement against the Central Government's move to send Air India workers on unpaid leave for six months to five years. Mamata Banerjee also urged the RSS-approved trade union, the Indian Trade Union Confederation, to join the protest. 

The Chief Minister has raised the question of how the workers will survive without salary. She said, "The Modi government at the center is taking advantage of the epidemic. This government has changed several laws without consulting the states."
